Herringbone Flooring UK: LVT Herringbone & Parquet Buyer's Guide

Parquet describes a family of geometric flooring patterns; herringbone is one of them. Parquet-effect LVT creates that look in vinyl rather than real wood. Start by choosing the pattern and the exact installation system, then compare products suitable for your room.

Herringbone is not the same as chevron

Herringbone arranges rectangular elements end-to-side. Chevron uses angled elements meeting at a point. Check product images, dimensions and laying instructions instead of treating the names as interchangeable. An ordinary straight plank, or a matching colour in another range, may not be suitable for the intended pattern.

Choose glue-down or click deliberately

Glue-down parquet LVT is bonded to a prepared base with a compatible adhesive system. Click herringbone has a specific locking and board-orientation sequence. Neither format removes the need for a suitable subfloor. Make a specification shortlist

• Check the documented domestic or commercial use classification, not just wear-layer thickness.
• Confirm room suitability, heating compatibility and any restrictions relating to sunlight or temperature.
• Compare plank dimensions, texture, bevels and design variation on full-room images as well as samples.
• Check the complete floor build-up at doorways and adjoining surfaces.

A waterproof product claim does not make the whole floor assembly a waterproof shower or wet room. Follow the required preparation, edge details and care instructions, and remove spills promptly.

Plan the pattern before ordering

Sketch the room, including alcoves and doorways. Agree the pattern direction, starting lines, borders and transitions with the installer. Check how the pattern meets the main entrance and focal points. These decisions affect cutting and quantities.

Agree a cutting allowance for your particular room rather than treating one percentage as correct for every herringbone job. Compare the complete project cost

Include preparation, approved adhesive or underlay, fitting, borders, trims, delivery and old-floor removal. Compare like-for-like layouts; a supply-only price does not include those items. Matching wear-layer measurements do not prove two floors have identical performance, design or warranty cover.
