How to Measure for LVT Flooring (Step-by-Step)
Getting your quantities right saves money and second orders. Here's the simple method.
- Measure each room as a rectangle. Measure the length and width in metres and multiply them to get the area in square metres (m²). For an L-shaped or alcoved room, split it into rectangles, work out each, and add them together.
- Add for wastage. Always order extra to cover cuts, mistakes and future repairs. Add roughly 10% for a standard straight-lay room, and 15–20% for diagonal or herringbone/parquet layouts, which generate more offcuts.
- Account for the pattern and direction. Planks are usually laid along the longest wall or toward the main light source — worth deciding before you order.
- Check the pack coverage. Each product lists the coverage per pack; divide your total (including wastage) by the pack coverage and round up to whole packs.
- Order from one batch. Buy all you need in one go so the shade matches — slight variation can occur between production batches.
