Glue-Down vs Click LVT: Which Should You Choose?
Both give you the same beautiful luxury-vinyl look. The difference is how they fit — and that affects cost, speed and which rooms they suit.
Glue-down LVT
Glue-down LVT is bonded directly to the subfloor with adhesive. The result is the thinnest, flattest, most seamless and most stable floor you can get, which is why it's the choice for feature layouts like herringbone and for commercial-grade durability. The trade-off: the subfloor must be smooth, level and dry, and it's best fitted by an experienced installer.
Click / SPC (rigid-core) LVT
Click / SPC LVT locks together as a floating floor over a thin underlay — no adhesive, no curing time. It fits faster, suits confident DIYers, and the rigid core bridges minor subfloor imperfections. The trade-off: it sits slightly higher, and over very uneven floors still needs prep.
Quick steer
- Want the most seamless, premium finish or a herringbone floor? Glue-down.
- Fitting it yourself, or going over an existing hard floor? Click/SPC.
- Wet area like a kitchen? Both work — choose by installation preference and check the product's water rating.
