Karndean Flooring: Ranges, Formats and Buying Guide

Choose Karndean flooring by design, fitting method and the specification of the exact product. Our Karndean collection brings together available ranges so you can compare the current listings, request samples and plan the complete flooring order.

A range name or familiar colour does not identify the installation method on its own. Glue-down, rigid core and loose lay products have different constructions and fitting requirements, even when the designs look similar.

Compare the exact product, not just the range name

As an example, Karndean lists Natural Studio Oak KP151 as Knight Tile glue-down, 2.0mm thick with a 0.3mm wear layer, in 915mm × 152mm planks. Other formats need their own specifications checked. Overall thickness, wear-layer thickness and pack coverage are different measurements.

Use the full product code when comparing a sample, website listing and quotation. Confirm whether you are buying straight planks, smaller parquet pieces or a product made for a particular click pattern.

Glue-down, rigid core or loose lay?

Glue-down flooring is bonded to a suitable prepared substrate with an approved adhesive system. Rigid core forms a floating floor with product-specific joint, backing and movement requirements. Loose lay has its own installation instructions and may require different fixing arrangements according to the room and product.

None of these formats removes the need to assess the base. Use Karndean's UK installation guides for the chosen format, and have the installer confirm preparation and accessories. There is no single adhesive that this guide can prescribe for every Karndean installation.

Rooms, heating and water exposure

Check suitability for the precise product and conditions, including underfloor heating, strong sunlight and water exposure. A water-resistant floor covering does not make the room or its substrate waterproof. Avoid assuming all glue-down floors are unsuitable for bathrooms or all click floors are suitable for every wet area.

How much will the project cost?

Compare the current price per square metre and the whole-pack order needed for your measured room and agreed cutting allowance. Include preparation, fitting, compatible accessories and delivery in the budget. Check availability and the applicable warranty before booking installation; do not rely on a general guide for a fixed lead time or guarantee.
