Choose wood flooring by construction and finish

Compare the wood flooring designs below, including plank and herringbone layouts. Engineered flooring has a real-wood surface over a layered core; solid wood uses a solid timber construction. Check the exact board, not an assumed specification for the whole category.

What to compare

Look at total thickness, wear-layer thickness where applicable, dimensions, grade, finish, joint system and pack coverage. Refinishing options depend on the remaining surface thickness, construction and condition; do not assume every floor can be sanded repeatedly.

Installation and underfloor heating

Use the manufacturer's approved floating, bonded or mechanical-fixing method for the selected product. Check moisture, acclimatisation, expansion details and compatible accessories. Underlay is appropriate only where the specified installation system calls for it.

Underfloor-heating compatibility is product-specific: not all engineered wood is approved, and a blanket category rule is not sufficient. Confirm the flooring and heating instructions, operating limits and commissioning procedure before ordering.

Plan your order

Agree the layout and cutting allowance, calculate whole packs, and check finished height at doors and transitions. Request available samples and ask for a supply quote. If you need installation information, see the existing fitting-service details.
