LVT Installation Cost: What to Include in Your Quote
LVT installation cost is the price of preparing and fitting the floor, not just the flooring price per square metre. A useful quote separates the floor covering, preparation, installation and finishing work so you can compare the same scope between installers.
There is no single rate that accurately prices every UK room. This guide explains what to include in a quote; it does not present unverified national averages or advertise a fixed fitting rate.
What should an LVT fitting quote include?
- Flooring supply: the chosen design, pack coverage, ordered quantity and cutting allowance.
- Existing flooring: any uplift, disposal and removal of incompatible residues.
- Subfloor assessment: condition, flatness, moisture and suitability for the installation system.
- Preparation: specified repairs, plywood, smoothing compound, primer or moisture-control work where required.
- Installation: labour for the chosen format and pattern, plus the compatible adhesive or approved underlay.
- Finishing: agreed thresholds, trims, skirting work and access arrangements.
- Other charges: delivery, minimum job charges and VAT where applicable.
Why glue-down, click and herringbone quotes differ
Glue-down LVT needs a suitable prepared base and a compatible adhesive system. Click flooring avoids the conventional bonding stage but still needs the substrate, movement gaps and transitions checked. Do not assume a click floor needs no preparation.
Herringbone or parquet can involve different setting-out, cutting and product quantities from a straight-plank layout. Ask the installer to quote the actual pattern and room shape. Do not assume a general percentage allowance covers every design.
Compare flooring prices and installed totals separately
Use the current product price and pack coverage to calculate the material order. For example, if your measured area plus the agreed allowance is 22m² and the chosen pack covers 3m², you need eight whole packs, covering 24m². This is an arithmetic illustration, not the pack size or price of a particular product.
Add the quoted preparation, fitting and other agreed charges to the material total. Two estimates with the same fitting rate can have different final costs if one excludes preparation, uplift or VAT.
Questions to ask before accepting a quote
- Has the installer assessed the base, or is preparation still provisional?
- Which materials and accessories are included, and who supplies them?
- Does the price cover the actual room layout, pattern and ordered quantity?
- Are uplift, disposal, thresholds and furniture movement included?
- Are there minimum charges, delivery charges or VAT to add?
- What happens if the survey identifies extra work?
