Choosing your sheet vinyl

Cushion and felt-backed vinyl: options for a softer feel underfoot. Backing does not remove the need to prepare the subfloor to the manufacturer's requirements.

Lay-flat vinyl: some ranges permit glue-free installation in smaller rooms. Room size, backing and the manufacturer's instructions determine whether adhesive is required.

Safety vinyl: choose a range specified for the actual conditions, including footwear, water and contaminants. An R rating alone is not a wet-room specification.

Wood, tile and patterned designs: consider pattern direction and repeat when planning your cut and any joins.
Bathrooms and wet rooms are different
Do not assume that every sheet vinyl is suitable for a shower or wet room. Continually wet areas need a manufacturer-approved wet-room range and the complete installation specification, including preparation, adhesive, welded joints and appropriate edge and drain details. Confirm suitability with your installer before ordering.
Sheet vinyl vs LVT
Sheet vinyl is supplied in rolls; luxury vinyl tiles and planks use individual pieces. A suitable roll width may cover a small room without a join, while larger or irregular rooms may need seams. Compare the specific product's room suitability, preparation requirements and installation method rather than assuming either format makes a waterproof floor on its own.
Planning your roll order
Measure the room at its widest and longest points, including recesses, and allow for trimming and pattern matching according to the product instructions. Select the available roll width and required cut length on the product page. The area of the ordered cut is its full width multiplied by its length; it can be greater than your room's usable floor area.
