Sheet Vinyl Flooring Installation Guide
Sheet vinyl is supplied on a roll. This guide helps you plan the job and identify the instructions you need; it is not a universal fitting specification. The backing, room and chosen range determine preparation, fixing and jointing requirements.
Herringbone-effect sheet vinyl is not individual LVT
On herringbone-effect sheet vinyl, the pattern is already part of the sheet design. Do not cut a roll into narrow strips to assemble a herringbone floor. Plan the printed pattern's direction and alignment as you position the sheet. Measure and plan before cutting
Record the room's maximum dimensions, including doorways and recesses. Confirm available roll widths, cutting allowance and any pattern repeat before ordering. A room's square-metre area alone does not determine the cut length you need. Agree seam positions and pattern matching with your installer, and inspect the delivered design and condition before cutting.
Check the base and product instructions
The substrate must satisfy the flooring manufacturer's moisture, smoothness and stability requirements. Do not assume a new sheet will hide joints or movement beneath it. Ask an installer to assess repairs, levelling and whether an existing covering can remain. Avoid disturbing unknown old flooring or adhesive until it has been assessed.
Follow the exact range's storage, conditioning and room-temperature instructions. Prepare the tools, compatible adhesive or tape and joint treatment specified for that product; they are not interchangeable across all vinyl floors.
Choose the approved fixing method
Some sheet products permit loose laying or perimeter fixing under specified conditions; others require full adhesion. Do not choose a method solely because it seems easier. Fitting, seams and finishing
Check the layout before final trimming. Where adhesive is required, follow its approved application, working time, rolling and curing instructions. Use the specified equipment, not an arbitrary heavy object. A join may need a particular seam treatment; do not substitute generic glue or tape. Get experienced help with awkward shapes, seams or unfamiliar fitting methods.
