LVT Kitchen Flooring: The Complete UK Guide

LVT can give a kitchen a wood, stone or patterned look in individual vinyl planks or tiles. Choose a product approved for the room, then plan preparation and fitting around the actual kitchen layout. Water resistance is useful, but it does not mean a floor is immune to leaks, scratches or installation problems.

Choose the format with the fitting plan

Glue-down LVT is bonded to a suitably prepared base. Click vinyl generally floats using its locking system. Compare preparation, finished height, movement requirements and compatible accessories. Neither format is automatically the quickest or suitable over every existing floor.

Units, islands and appliances

Show the installer the location of fixed units, islands and appliances before work starts. Follow the exact product instructions on fitting order, clearances and heavy loads. A floating floor must not be pinned down where its system requires movement. Do not use a generic rule to fit every floor beneath units, or assume an appliance mat makes every load acceptable. Check current manufacturer installation instructions for the chosen format.

Heating and subfloor checks

Confirm that the flooring, backing or adhesive system is compatible with your heating. Follow its stated temperature, commissioning and restart procedure. Have moisture, flatness and movement checked before covering the base. Door clearances and transitions need to allow for the whole build-up, including preparation.

Choose colour and pattern

Care and realistic expectations

Clear grit and spills promptly and follow the range's approved cleaning method. Use compatible protection beneath movable furniture. A textured finish is not proof of a particular slip rating, and water or other liquids can still make the surface slippery. Check the product data rather than relying on appearance. A wear layer or warranty period is not a promise that every installation will last that long. Check the exact warranty's application, conditions and exclusions. Investigate leaks and moisture problems rather than relying on a waterproof-plank label.
