- Preparation
1. Measuring the Room
Measure the width and length of the room to determine the amount of carpet and underlay needed. Add a few extra inches to ensure coverage.
2. Subfloor Preparation
Ensure the subfloor is clean, dry, and level. Remove any old flooring, nails, or debris.
3. Installing Gripper Rods
Install gripper rods around the perimeter of the room, leaving a gap of about 1/4 inch from the wall.
Installation
1. Laying the Underlay
Roll out the underlay across the floor and secure it with staples or adhesive. Trim the edges to fit, ensuring it doesn’t overlap the gripper rods.
2. Positioning the Carpet
Lay the carpet over the underlay and align it with the walls. Leave a few extra inches on all sides for trimming.
3. Stretching and Securing
Use a carpet stretcher and knee kicker to stretch the carpet tightly over the gripper rods. Press the edges into the grippers to secure.
4. Trimming Excess Carpet
Use a carpet knife to trim the excess carpet along the edges for a neat finish.
Finishing Touches
Inspect the carpet for any wrinkles or loose areas and stretch them as needed. Vacuum the carpet to remove any debris or dust from installation.
