SP101 is Hanson's flooring-grade overlay plywood — a smooth, dimensionally accurate 6mm board (8ft × 4ft, 2440 × 1220mm) made for creating a flat, stable base before you lay LVT, vinyl, laminate or engineered wood.

What SP101 plywood is used for

Why flooring plywood matters

A new floor is only as good as the base beneath it. Lay LVT or sheet vinyl straight over uneven or springy floorboards and, in time, the gaps and ridges telegraph through to the surface. A 6mm SP101 overlay gives a flat, rigid deck that protects the finished floor and helps it wear evenly. Where boards are very uneven, pair it with a levelling compound.

How many sheets do I need?

Each 8×4 sheet covers 2.97m². Divide your room area by 2.97 and add around 10% for cuts and waste — so a 20m² room needs roughly 8 sheets.

Can I lay LVT or vinyl over SP101?

Yes — 6mm SP101 is a standard overlay for smoothing timber floors before LVT, vinyl, laminate or engineered wood.

How do I fix it down?

Screw or staple at roughly 150mm centres around the edges and across the board, laid in a brick-bond pattern with a small expansion gap at the perimeter.

Is 6mm thick enough?

6mm is the usual thickness for overlaying existing floorboards. It's an overlay board rather than a structural deck for spanning joists — for that you'd choose a thicker structural plywood.
